It’s been a rough few weeks for New Jersey, job seekers and non seekers alike. Hurricane Sandy slammed right through without any mercy, any restraint, and left thousands without power, damaged millions of dollars worth of property, and stall the job searches of so many.

Honestly, how are you supposed to leave your house if you have 200 mile an hour winds?

The flooding and power loss made things harder. And then there was the gas crisis we had to endure. First, no power to run the pumps, then no gas left in the tanks, then even-odd and cash only. Who knows how many station jacked up the prices without us knowing about it.

Today, we have news of the jobless rate dipping from 9.8 percent…

To 9.7.

To make matters worse, New Jersey is said to have lost over 11,000 jobs mainly due to storm activity.

So much for, what were they calling it? The Recovery? The Jersey Comback? The

Middle Class something or other?

What is a job seeker to do?

Stop reading so much into the news.

With all the bad news that is floating around; Hurricane Sandy, National Debts, the Government falling off a fiscal cliff, international mayhem, it is very easy to think that all hope is fading away and only a lucky few can and will get anywhere. This kind of negative thinking, depressed thinking, can be fueled by all this carnage if we let it. By controlling the amount we date in, however, and not cutting ourselves off from it completely, we can begin the process of controlling our thinking and increasing our motivation.

The next step is to remember our successes. We have all had work in the past, we have all been to school, we have all accomplished. We might be told that those accomplishments are minuscule and unworthy of any praise and congratulations. And while previous accomplishments on the job may not be worth a parade, they were important to us and we achieved them. Remember the positive you have done; those accomplishments and keep the positive you want to accomplish in the forefront of your mind. Let that motivate you in your job search in the face of disasters and depression.

And, while you’re at it, let Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors help you!

There is no cost ever.

Only inspiration!
