Neighbors Helping Neighbors knows IT'S GETTING BETTER!!!!

The economy is still tough, but unemployment is dripping down.... These are some things to keep in mind.

So New Jersey is going to lag behind the rest of the US in job recovery.

We’re lagging behind and depending on who you are, what side of the isle you are and how your bank account is doing, you have a particular reaction. Many people will look at this and groan.

The unemployment rate in NJ has dripped down to 9%. That is not a lot. That is not April of 2000 where it was at 3.6% or even July of 1992 where it was at 8.7%. It is not where we want it, where we would like it.
But it’s going down!

Which means opening for jobs; this is the sign we should rev up the engines, that there will be fruits for our labors!

Whether you are unemployed, underemployed, or just unhappy with your job, this is the beginning of the end. We’ve been huddling in the trenches for so long, we’ve forgotten what it is to be capable, able bodied; it’s so long ago that we were mobile and free, the horizon so bright and happy.

But that time is back and I beg all of you to remember!

Here are some of the best ideas I have picked up for job search. This is what I plan to keep in mind and work on as I go out and dig my way out of underemployment:

  • Stay Positive. Being underemployed and being bombarded with bad news, I know this can be difficult at the very best. If it bleeds it leads as the
media’s motto goes and that’s what they post. Skim the bad news, be aware
of it, but look for success and remember your own success.

  • Follow what you love. Lost your job? Looking for something new? Don’t just go for market demands and the highest paycheck; go for what uses your gifts and talents. If you are outgoing, if you are good with numbers, if you love to take risks, if you love the great responsibility, hit something like
investment banking. If a day without writing is a day written off, as one
shirt said, as I firmly believe, then you know where you have to go.

  • Take care of your sanity. I write for a few hours every day. This clears my head, restores my confidence, sets off my creativity, and makes my life worth living. Yes, we need work, yes, to get work takes effort, but we cannot do this if the unhealthy parts of our brains reign unchecked and pollute everything we do. Sanity is the key to success.

  • Network. Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors. LinkedIn. Facebook. Twitter.  Job Fairs. Talent Networks on New Jersey’s Department of Labor site. Phone calls to other job searchers. Information Interviews. Trade groups. How to network: Introduce yourself, be professional, mature you, talk about what you would like to achieve, offer to give, say thank you. Embrace your nice side, your confidence!

  • The Internet only contains 10 to 20% of all job openings. Use it. Why the heck not? It’s fairly convenient, is it not? But it can be depressing when you
only find two job openings in for what you want in Tallahassee. Network
through N-H-N and LinkedIn. Make a list of all business and companies you
would like to work for, that match your interests, make up some resumes
and cover letters and go to them. Introduce yourself, hand them that
resume, actually, hand the HR people that resume, and smile! Call up some
business! This sort of behavior, using the internet as a research tool and
using your face and voice as a job search tool stands out!

  • Remember that this is only temporary and you will succeed through your own efforts. You can do it. You’ve done more in the past, especially if you are a Mother or Father. Effort brings success!

  • That’s all for now.

Wishing you Peace and Success :)
