2012 was a better year for job searchers. At least in comparison to previous years following the crash. 2013 is beginning to look like a better year. For Neighbors-Helping Neighbors members and fans, we can follow these successes with our Success Stories!

Here are a few of those stories:

Success #1 - May, (3.24.11) the first member who found a job after attending meetings in River Edge was a young woman who was working in New York City and she has a daughter with Autism, which required her to leave work frequently. The group members all pitched in and helped give her feedback on her resume, and gave her ideas of where to look for a job within an area closer to her home. She shortly after attending meetings a job with a local bank in New Jersey not far from her home in New Milford.

Success #8 –Steve was from Washington Twp. shared his success story with the group. "I had been looking since the beginning of the year, and I had been getting horribly frustrated," he said. "I kept getting interviews and I would interview with the hiring manager and pass the technical interview, most of the time with flying colors, and then I would have the human resources interview, and they would take one look at the graying hair and the growing bald spot on the back of my head and they always found a reason to reject me. The group members kept my hopes up. "I guess the moral of the story is: don't give up hope, because I was really getting there. I was seriously thinking I was never going to work again. But I still feel I have a lot to contribute to the world."

 Success # 220-( 1-3-13) Michael of NhN Mendham Twp said, “ I am extremely pleased and relieved to report that after a torturous 13 month wait I am once again employed. I will be shooting and editing video for a website catering to physicians, called MedPageToday.com. I have been looking for a job like this for the last 10 years, and I am very excited.
I would like to give a great big THANKS! to my fellow NHN'ers in Mendham, NJ for their help and support over the last year. Nancy Murray, and several other members were an unending wealth of encouragement and inspiration to me. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Thank you Steve Fritz for your valuable tips on creating the best LinkedIn profile. You guys are the greatest! I will be working again, but not forgetting all of you. Keep up the good fight!

People are getting jobs!

People are getting better work despite all of the gloom and doom that we read about every day in the news.

For those of you who have work, for those who got work and were involved with N-H-N, we have a small request. Contact John Fugazzie, our Founder and president and share your story with him! Your stories are encouragement, hope, and help. The methods and ideas you had will help others who are in a similar situation you were in. In may be a small act, an act that only takes about ten minutes to do, but it’s an act that can go a long way.

Remember the idea of “Pay-It-Forward” from the last blog, an idea that is at the core of Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors. Do something for someone, a favor, but do not expect anything in return. Do not expect payment, credit, nothing, but hope that the favor will be passed on and help someone else.

Oh the Attention we are getting!
As Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors grows and continues to help communities get jobs, we are getting attention and recognition for our work. The Bergen Record, owned by North Jersey Media has written many articles about us, interviewing members and our President and Founder. In addition, USA Today is interviewing John.

And, of course, we cannot talk about the generous coverage without including Patch.com. Patch.com has allowed us to blog for free! Through them, we appear on several other Patches, spreading the word and hope to other towns, gaining new members, and helping others! The ideas and concepts pushed forward in our group here in New Jersey are beginning to spread out of the state too.
That’s right. We are spreading out into the country. Newest openings: Boston, Massachusetts!

Yet another reminder, in case you missed out last blog. Hasbrouck Heights Library is running training programs for computer skills.

Go to the bottom of the page to see the next few months. Find the training programs that could help you and attend them. They cost $40.00 a session and while money is tight, this is a good investment. It is certainly better than spending $400 on a college program!

Last but not least, we have LinkedIn.
Attached to this blog is a copy of one of my previous blogs where I talked about how to get onto LinkedIn. LinkedIn will not get you the job tomorrow and it might not get you your next job period. What it will do is put you in touch with professionals in your industry and give you a space to post your accomplishments, connect and network with recruiters, professionals and trainers, and keep you posted on developments in your industry.

 All you have to do it:
1. Set up your profile
2. Join Groups related to you industries
3. Partake in the Groups, post articles, and respond like the professional you are!

Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA, Inc.
