Who Should be Allowed to Marry? Who Should Be Forbidden to Marry?

Do we really know what the Bible says about it all?

A look at the Bible does not condemn loving relationships of any kind. A look at the Bible condemns wanton sex and prostitution both for heterosexuals and homosexuals but does not condemn loving committed relationships.

I find it peculiar that while Jesus was vocal about DIVORCE, all kinds of caveats have been created by Christians to justify the many reasons for divorce, other than the ONLY reason Jesus gave. “ And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery” Matthew 19:9

Why have we turned over the “sanctity of marriage” to our Public Officials and enabled them to dissolve it and for hundreds of other reasons besides adultery when Jesus was so specific about what was the only reason allowed for divorce?

Where is the clamor from Christians and Churches to stop divorced people from remarrying like the clamor quoting scripture to support condemnation of  same-sex marriage?  Adultery, being one of the 10 commandments is permitted by law in the United States and there is no clamor. However, the sanctity of marriage is shouted whenever same sex marriage is mentioned.  Marriage has been de-sanctified by allowing a LEGAL parting from Jesus’ commandment on marriage, by licensing it in the first place and allowing public officials to officate it.  As a matter of fact, to be able to get married in NJ, the only requirements are proper ID and $28; they don't even ask if you love one another let alone if you will "increase and multiply."

Further, if the purpose of marriage is to procreate, why do we license couples who cannot or refuse to have children? Should we bar senior citizens from marrying too? Should we give a fertility test to everyone applying for a license to marry? Since marriage is a function of the State and issues licenses to be able to marry, should we bar scriptural references from  the topic of who should be permitted to marry as we barred scriptural references from the topic of who should be permitted to divorce?

The Bible condemns heterosexual adultery. That does not mean that heterosexuality itself is condemned nor does it mean that a loving heterosexual marriage is condemned.  Why then when the Bible condemns homosexual rape and prostitution, do we ASSUME that homosexuality itself  must be condemned and forbid LEGAL same sex marriage?
