Carter and Fermin Open New Art Studio 'Color With Me' In Heights

Art studio caters to children from toddler to tween

One of the things that brought Christina Carter and Sonia Fermin together was their vision of creating a place in town for children where they can fully explore their creativity and make as much of a mess as they want.

“Color With Me,” a brand new art studio catering to children ranging in age from toddler to tween, just opened at 166 Franklin Avenue this month and is the result of Carter and Fermin’s shared interest and experience in early childhood teaching and development.

The art studio opened Feb. 1 and the women hosted a grand opening celebration Sunday complete with crafts and face painting for the youngsters.

Next door neighbors here in Heights, Carter and Fermin both have daycares in their home and each has young children. Carter said the two felt there needs to be more in this town for young children, which led to the birth of “Color With Me.”

“We both love kids and wanted to do something different. We thought about what we would want for our kids in this town and that is how we came about with this idea,” said Carter.

Some of the initial classes include: Messy Babies (ages 1 – 2), Tiny Hand Toddlers (ages 2 – 3), I Can Do it Myself (ages Preschool 3 – 5), Big Kids Art Club (Kindergarten and up), Boys will be Boys (ages 6 – 9), and Just Us Girls, offered in two age-grouped sessions. There will also be open Studio Time, a non-structured time for children to come and create whatever they want. In the future, they will be adding special needs and bilingual classes. Sundays will be reserved for parties and special events.

“This is a place where children can come and be free to express themselves and they do not have to worry about making a mess,” Carter said.
