Comic Jim Breuer Returns to Heights This Weekend

Acclaimed comic makes a two-night appearance at Banana's Comedy Club

Veteran comic Jim Breuer has been on countless stages and has appeared on television, films and radio. He’s even written his own autobiography. With all these projects continuously keeping him busy, there is still nothing he loves more than getting up on stage and doing his stand-up.

Once again he returns to right here in Hasbrouck Heights, which Breuer calls one of his all time favorite places to perform.  He loves the crowd and energy of the audience and he’s been returning to Banana’s annually for the past 15 years now.

Many know Breuer as “Goat Boy,” the character he created during his years on Saturday Night Live in the mid-1990s. He has appeared with Dave Chapelle in the cult film “Half Baked” and with Rosario Dawson and Adam Sandler in “Zookeeper.” He’s been busy with his latest tour “Heavy Metal Family Man” and his autobiography “I’m Not High: (But I've Got a Lot of Crazy Stories about Life as a Goat Boy, a Dad, and a Spiritual Warrior)” has recently been released in paperback.

Right now is a great time to see Breuer on stage as he is in full creative mode while gearing up for his new special, slated to begin filming this spring. It will be followed by a fall tour.

“Every night I’m creating more and more new stuff,” Breuer said about piecing together every bit of the puzzle that will make up the new special.

Breuer plans to film the special in New Jersey and is currently still working out some of the locations.  The working title right now is called “Something for Everyone.”

His comedy routine is something for everyone as every day things in life inspire him. He described himself as “a modern day Cosby but I wear a Metallica shirt.”

Family is a huge inspiration for the humor he brings to the stage. He thrives on getting the whole family to watch a show and finds it amazing that a 7-year-old and an adult can watch someone like Bill Cosby go on for an hour and both can see the humor in his act. Cosby is certainly an influence and someone he looks to for inspiration, Breuer said.

“I got an 89-year old dad who lives with me. A mother who is blind in one eye. I got three daughters and I’ve been married 18 years. If I can’t find comedy in that I’m dead,” joked Breuer.

Breuer says he’s a “Facebook page geek” and just loves interacting with fans on his page. He invites them to post and add videos and photos from his shows.

Breuer will appear at Banana’s Comedy Club on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11. He will perform two shows each night – 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets cost $40. For more information on tickets visit the club’s website.
