Girls Rec Basketball Team Are South Bergen League Champs

Hasbrouck Heights Recreation Travel Eighth Grade Girls basektball team won the competitive South Bergen League Team Championship this Sunday.

The winning team members are: Alyssa Bevacqua, Stephanie Dallara, Diljeet Kaur, Jillian DiGiacinto, Megan O'Leary, Sami Partyka, Stacey Porzl, Jillian Sears, Alyssa Verdi and Mary Watkins. Team coaches are Ken Partyka, Al DeAngelo, Steve Porzl and Gene Dallara.

This team is the first to capture a girls basketball championship for the recreation department, said Robert Brady, Recreation Director.

Coach Partyka said March 25 marked the end of a "spectacular season" for the team.

“Truly notable were the undefeated tournament wins in South Hackensack and Maywood culminating with the South Bergen League Championship Win by defeating Little Ferry and Fair Lawn in the playoffs and then Lyndhurst in the Championship Game,” said Partyka. 

"This team was a special group of 10 girls. Their work ethic emulated from their parents while the coaches strived to bring the same approach to the season.  The girls displayed a basketball maturity and focused on team concepts which was very evident on the basketball court throughout the season," added Partyka.

Brady said, "I am extremely proud of these girls and their coaches, how they prepared, worked hard, and improved throughout the season. Most of all I am proud of the way they represented our recreation department, their families and themselves on the court. As the first group of girls to win a team championship in recreation basketball I am very proud of them and the coaching staff!"
