HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ — A new car wash could be coming to the former Mt. Fuji property on Route 17 South following a recent local approval.

Councilman Bobby Bing said in a Facebook post that the Hasbrouck Heights Planning Board approved an application from El Car Wash to redevelop the long-vacant property.

Bing said the proposal has been submitted to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for review, particularly concerning traffic entering and exiting Route 17.

The plans also address nearby homes on Field Avenue, with the building positioned closer to the highway and vacuum equipment enclosed in a concrete structure to reduce noise, according to Bing.

The councilman explained that borough officials previously adjusted zoning regulations to encourage redevelopment.

"The goal was simple: encourage investment, get a long-vacant property back into productive use, and generate additional tax revenue for the Borough," Bing wrote.

He added that the project is expected to create local jobs and generate property tax revenue.
