Heights School Enrollment Numbers Continue to Climb, Report Says

All four Hasbrouck Heights public schools saw an increase in enrollment last year according to figures in the state School Report Card released last week.

Heights school officials have noted significant increases over the past few years which has led to class size and classroom space issues in recent school years. Mark Porto, superintendent, said recently enrollment in the district has gone up 22 percent since 2010.

At the start of this 2012-2013 school year the district had expanded its pre-K program to Euclid School but has since determined the two elementary schools need the class space for other overcrowding grades. There will be no pre-K offered at either elementary school in the fall, officials said.

As the charts below show some schools had more of an increase in enrollment than others. Euclid's enrollment had a very small change in overall enrollment from 2010-2011 to 2011-2012 where Lincoln had a total of 26 more students school 2011-2012.

The chart shows a breakdown of differences in enrollment numbers for each grade. Euclid saw a bump at most grade levels the largest being Grade 4 which went from 49 to 62 in one year.

At the middle school the largest bump was in grade 7 which jumped by about 31 students from school year 2010-2011 to 2011-2012. At the high school there was significant growth at grades 11 and 12.
