Library Patrons Can Learn About eBook Downloads and eReaders

Continuously advancing technology just keeps bringing us more and more new offerings. Even books are now digital.

With that in mind, Melissa Singlevich, head of adult programming at the has set up times on three Mondays this month to show patrons with any kind of eReader device how to download books and also how to use their device if they are in need of some assistance.

This past Monday afternoon Singlevich met with some library patrons, walking through some basic steps on how to use such devices as the Nook or EZReader. She also walked patrons through how to download free digital or audio books from BCCLS, the Bergen County Cooperative Library System.

To be able to download from BCCLs one must have a library card, Singlevich pointed out. Basically one can login to the BCCLS site via his or her library card number, chose a selection for download, and provided it is available, it can be automatically downloaded to the device. With her own Kindle Fire reader, which connects to Wi-Fi, the download can go to her device automatically, she explained.

Some devices will need the use of a computer with downloaded Overdrive software in order to download the digital book and then upload it from there to their own eReader. If one does not have access to a computer he or she can use one at the library, she pointed out.

Downloaded books can be taken out on loan for either 10 or 14 days, Singlevich said.

The next eReader workshops Singlevich has planned are for Monday, Feb. 13 and Monday, Feb. 27 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
