Meet Daniel Ramsay and Iliana Orozco, Owners of Bergen Country Crossfit

Weekly feature focuses on the local business owners of Hasbrouck Heights

Welcome back to Down the Boulevard, a new weekly feature on Hasbrouck Heights Patch where we ask the business owners in our town a few questions about their business and themselves. Get to know your business owners.

Daniel Ramsay and Iliana Orozco, residents of Hasbrouck Heights, have deep roots in personal fitness.  Their passion for fitness began with martial arts nearly 30 years ago.

After decades of dedication to increasing speed, agility, and strength Ramsay and Orozco made the decision to follow their passion for martial arts and fitness, opening a small, private gym in Hasbrouck Heights 10 years ago. Just three years later they decided to begin teaching a new style of fitness.

Renting a small storefront on the Boulevard, Ramsay and Orozco introduced the residents of Hasbrouck Heights to their specialized 21-day fitness program.

Their clients saw quick, remarkable results from the program and word of the new gym spread through the local area. As their client list grew Ramsay and Orozco changed the gym’s format from private to semi-private training. That simple format change turned out to be that special ingredient that made Bergen County Crossfit what it is today.

The semi-private sessions allowed the young trainers to work with more clients, offer better rates, but most importantly, brought a competitive nature to the workouts. Ramsay saw his clients working out harder than ever—and the reaping the rewards.

Five years ago Ramsay became a certified Crossfit affiliate, growing his clientele even larger. The gym then moved to a larger location, 191 Boulevard, where it remains today.  Bergen County Crossfit’s membership has grown so much over the past two years that Ramsay and Orozco recently expanded their space to more than double the size, taking over the store formerly occupied by Boulevard Flooring and Bike Shop. People can often see members running in and out of the two storefronts day and night.

When asked why he feels their business model is so successful Ramsay replied, “Unlike steady state training like running, tread mills, or elliptical machines Bergen County Crossfit specializes in high intensity intervals that last between 12 and 20 minutes. These specially designed short circuits allow you to burn fat for hours after your work out.”

Ramsay and Orozco love being in Hasbrouck Heights and enjoy the opportunity to train local residents. Ramsay is particularly proud of the Heights High School athletes that train at their facility—athletes that include members of the, wrestling team, star track team members, and the undefeated football team. Additionally, MMA fighters gain an athletic edge on the competition and Bergen County Police and Sherif’s officers remain in top shape by completing the challenging circuits. However, Orozco was quick to mention that their workouts are universally scalable so that everyone—young, older, fit, and out of shape—can maximize the benefits.

Orozco has helped countless members lose weight and keep it off with her 21-day diet and constant motivation. Together, Ramsay and Orozco are making town residents a look better and get healthier.

Bergen County Crossfit is open 7 days a week.
