Part of Summer School Program Can be Taken Online
Online curriculum provider Odyssey Ware offers remediation courses which the district will implement for summer school

Beginning this year, the school district plans to offer part of its summer remediation program online.
The online curriculum program, known as Odyssey Ware, offers remediation courses which the district will implement for summer school, shortening the amount of class time.
Steve Forte, high school principal explained that the required 60 hours for summer school will not change but students will now be able to spend 30 hours in the classroom and can complete the other 30 hours online.

Students will not be allowed to take the entire summer school program online, and they must complete 30 hours of classroom time, Forte said. He added that the online component does provide some flexibility so a student can do the work while he or she is away with family on vacation, for example.
The fee for the summer school program is $300.

Odyssey Ware also offers other courses the school may offer students in the future such as French which Forte said is not currently offered in the school. The online program also offers art history which they can consider offering as well.
Forte said they are working to get the summer school program off the ground first and once that is in place they can consider the possibility of working with students on a case by case basis to allow them to take certain courses the district doesn’t offer in the classroom.
Also Forte said they may be able to allow a student to take an online class if he or she is unable to fit in a certain class due to his or her classroom schedule.
