Police Department Looks to Acquire Electronic Ticketing System

Chief says electronic ticketing will save time and improve accuracy

The is looking into acquiring an electronic ticketing system which police officials say will improve efficiency and save time.

Police Chief Michael Colaneri explained that with Eticket an officer can swipe one’s drivers license information into the system eliminating handwriting in the information which saves times and also improves accuracy.  He explained that there are times when summonses are dismissed due to unintelligible handwriting.

The driver’s information only needs to be entered once therefore if more than one summonses needs to be issued at that time the officer can just change the statute number for each one.  “Officers are more likely to write three summons as oppose to just one.  It's less time consuming,“ he explained.

Summonses can be printed out and the information is automatically stored into the police department records as well as the NJ ATS system which saves time for both the police department clerk and violations clerk, Colaneri explained.

He added that it’s a known fact that other police departments which utilize Eticket have seen their number rise.
