School Students Win 'Big Read' Contests

Winners received Barnes and Nobles Nook readers

More than 50 students and 20 adults participated in the first annual Heights Big Read event, a community-wide reading effort launched by the high school, making it a big success, Suzanne Kos, who leads the literacy program for the school said.

In addition to participating by reading the chosen book “Fahrenheit 411” students had the opportunity to enter a poster contest and essay contest to win a Barnes And Noble Nook reader.

More than 60 students submitted posters for the contest and the 21 finalists were displayed in the high school media center. Noelle Parades won first prize for her poster and received the Nook reader and Camilla Pietras won second place.

Out of the 20 students who submitted essays Nick Sciancalepore won first place and also received the Nook reader. Second place award went to Jose Arias.
