Stop & Shop, Community FoodBank of New Jersey and the New Jersey Devils Team Up to Provide North Jersey Residents in Need with Thanksgiving

Thousands of Turkeys Distributed at the Meadowlands YMCA by Stop & Shop Associates and Devils Alumni
Stop & Shop, the NJ Devils and Community FoodBank of New Jersey today distributed thousands of turkeys at the Meadowlands YMCA. The turkeys, which were donated by Stop & Shop as part of their annual Turkey Express program, were provided to more than one dozen area soup kitchens and pantries, to be handed out to Bergen County residents in need.
There are an estimated 800,000 people facing food insecurity in New Jersey, with nearly 100,000 people in Bergen County at risk of hunger. Since March of 2020, the Meadowlands YMCA has handed out over 6.5 million pounds of food. At its peak, the food line stretched nearly 2 miles and since, the YMCA has averaged 300 families each week in its food line.

Stop & Shop and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey were joined by NJ Devils alumni including Grant Marshall, Ken Daneyko, and Bryce Salvador, along with the mascot, NJ.
“Stop & Shop’s donation means 1,500 North Jersey families will have access to a Thanksgiving meal this year,” said Stefanie Shuman, Community Relations Manage for Stop & Shop. “We’re thankful for partners like CFBNJ and the Devils who are also committed to fighting hunger in New Jersey, not only around the holidays, but all year long.”

"This holiday season, CFBNJ will distribute close to 70,000 turkeys and roasters," said Carlos Rodriguez, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. "We're so grateful to partners like Stop & Shop, the NJ Devils, and the Meadowlands YMCA for helping us to ensure a happy Thanksgiving for all of our neighbors in need."
Stop & Shop’s Turkey Express program will deliver more than 21,500 turkeys to hunger relief organizations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island this holiday season.
