Teachers Honored for Achievements

Board of Education honors Teachers of the Year and another for obtaining a NJEA grant for the district

Members of the school community formerly congratulated five of the district’s educator’s for recent achievements at the start of last Thursday’s Board of Education meeting.

One teacher from each school has earned the title of Teacher of the Year for 2011 - Melissa Gyenes of Euclid School, Shannon Valenti of Lincoln School, of Kimberly Caputo of the middle school and Shoshana Michaeli of the high school.

Dr. Mark Porto, superintendent of schools and Josephine Ciocia board president presented the recipients with plaques and Principals Lesa Brinker of Lincoln School and Peter O’Hare of Euclid School were on hand to congratulate the recipients.

Ciocia, who is an educator herself, called the award a real honor and said she had not realized just how prestigious the award felt until she had received it years ago.

The board also honored Gayle Dubosky for her work in getting obtaining the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education grant for the district in the amount of $9,747.
