1 Case Of Hate, Anti-Semitism Reported In Hillsborough In 2021

There were 370 antisemitic incidents reported in New Jersey, which reached an all-time high in 2021.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — One incident of hate, extremism and antisemitism was reported in Warren from 2021 to 2022, according to a new report by the Anti-Defamation League.

There were also 21 incidents reported in Somerset County. In New Jersey, 370 antisemitic incidents were reported, which reached an all-time high in 2021.

  • September 2021: A synagogue received an email with anti-Jewish literature.

Here are the towns and the number of incidents reported in Somerset County:

  • Bernardsville - 1
    • May 2021: A Jewish child was teased for being Jewish with photos on social media and had coins thrown at her.
  • Bridgewater - 8
    • February 2022: Individuals associated with White Lives Matter, a network of anonymous white supremacists, distributed propaganda that read: "Did you know that us young white women are only 2% of the world population?," "Results of the anti-white media. RIP Cannon Hinnant. Age 5" and "White Lives Matter. Embrace struggle." They also hung a banner from an overpass that read: "F** BLM."
    • December 2021: A high school bathroom was vandalized with the n-word, "Gas the jews" and the n-word with the letter "E" replaced by a swastika.
    • October 2021: Multiple high school bathrooms vandalized with swastikas and racial slurs.
    • October 2021: High school bathroom was vandalized with a swastika and the n-word.
    • October 2021: A swastika was carved into the radiator of a high school bathroom.
    • October 2021: Swastikas were drawn and carved inside a high school bathroom.
    • September 2021: A JCC received a call from an unknown person who said "Heil Hitler."
    • September 2021: A swastika was drawn in a high school bathroom.
  • Green Brook - 1
    • February 2021: A Black and Jewish woman received messages on Instagram, including "stupid Jew," "stupid dumb black no good n-word" "heil hitler," and "k**es get the rope."
  • Montgomery - 1
    • December 2021: Patriot Front, a white supremacist group, distributed propaganda that read: "America is not for sale," "Better red than dead," “One nation, against invasion” and “Revolution is tradition.”
  • Somerset - 3
    • December 2021: Patriot Front, a white supremacist group, distributed propaganda that read: "Better dead than red," "Life of our nation, liberty of our people, victory of the American spirit,” “One nation against invasion” and “Revolution is tradition.”
    • July 2021: New Jersey European Heritage Association, a neo-Nazi group, distributed propaganda that read: "White children are a minority now."
    • January 2021: New Jersey European Heritage Association, an alt right group, distributed propaganda that read: "Ashli Babbitt: Lived as a patriot, died as a patriot, and never to be forgotten."
  • Somerset County (town not specified) - 1
    • November 2021: Individuals associated with White Lives Matter, a network of anonymous white supremacist activists, distributed propaganda that read: "White lives matter."
  • Somerville - 3
    • November 2021: Individuals associated with White Lives Matter, a network of anonymous white supremacist activists, distributed propaganda that read: "White lives matter."
    • July 2021: A Jewish bisexual person was called a "f**got" and a "f***ing Jew."
    • February 2021: New Jersey European Heritage Association, an alt right group, distributed propaganda that featured a Star of David and read: "Voting will not drain the swamp."
  • South Bound Brook - 1
    • July 2021: A swastika was spray-painted on the ground.
  • Warren - 1
    • Feb. 25, 2022: The National Alliance, a neo-Nazi group, distributed propaganda at Watchung Hills Regional High School that discredited Martin Luther King Jr.

The ADL's annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents describes 2,717 attacks on Jewish people last year, a 34 percent year-over-year increase, according to the ADL, which began tracking antisemitic incidents in 1979.
