$15K Scam, Stolen Packages, Criminal Mischief Reported In Montgomery
The total value of the stolen packages was $572. Police are reminding residents to be on alert during the holiday season.
MONTGOMERY, NJ — A scam, packages stolen, criminal mischief, and a crash were reported recently in Montgomery.
Montgomery Township Police blotter:
On Nov. 29 at 7:19 a.m.: Montgomery Police and Montgomery EMS responded to the intersection of Route 206 and Sunset Road for a motor vehicle crash. A 17-year-old Belle Mead resident was driving a 2022 Hyundai SUV west on Devon Drive approaching Route 206. The 17-year-old failed to stop for the red traffic signal and upon entering the intersection, the Hyundai was struck on the passenger side by a 2005 GMC utility truck traveling south on Route 206, operated by a 61-year-old Hillsborough resident. The collision forced the Hyundai SUV into a traffic light signal causing it to fall. The GMC then struck a 2021 Audi operated by a 54-year-old Belle Mead resident that was stopped at the traffic light on Sunset Road. The driver of the GMC truck was treated by Montgomery EMS for lacerations to his hand. The driver of the Hyundai SUV was also evaluated by Montgomery EMS. The driver of the Audi was not injured. As a result of the investigation, the driver of the Hyundai was issued citations for failing to observe the traffic signal and careless driving and is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Township Municipal Court.

On Nov. 29: Montgomery Police responded to Hartwick Drive for a reported theft. The victim advised police that there were packages delivered to her residence and when she went to retrieve them, she discovered they were stolen. The total loss of the items is $572. Montgomery Police remind residents to be cognizant of anticipated deliveries and not leave packages unattended as there is often an increase in theft of deliveries during the holiday season.
On Dec. 2: Montgomery Police responded to a Skillman residence for a scam. The victim advised that a message was received on her computer indicating a virus had infected the computer. The victim was directed to call a phone number for Microsoft Technical Support. Upon calling, the victim was informed that her phone service was compromised and there was an issue with her banking account. The victim was directed to transfer a sum of money via cryptocurrency, and did so resulting in a loss in excess of $15,000.

On Dec. 3: Montgomery Police responded to a report of criminal mischief to a mailbox and recycle cans at a Belle Mead residence. Upon arriving, police learned that unknown individuals purposely drove a vehicle into recycle cans that were left at the curb of several residences throughout the neighborhood. In addition, the actors damaged several mailboxes. A resident reported hearing a commotion in the early hours of the morning consistent with this incident. Police ask anyone with surveillance cameras to review their videos to determine if anything was captured to assist with identifying those responsible for this act.
