HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The first Bald Eagle egg of 2022 has arrived at Duke Farms in Hillsborough.

The egg was spotted on Monday at 3:37 p.m. on Duke Farms's Eagle cam which livestreams the nest 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The camera was repaired earlier this month after being submerged under 12 feet of Hurricane Ida floodwater in September. It took months of troubleshooting and then waiting for parts, before the camera was able to go live on Jan. 6 — just in time to see the Bald Eagle pair and eventually their new arrival of the egg.

This isn't the first time the nest battled mother nature. The nest was previously destroyed by Superstorm Sandy, then rebuilt by the eagles less than 100 feet away from the original nest.

As of this year, Duke Farms is celebrating 14 years of the camera being operational. The nest was first discovered in 2004 and since 2005, this nest has been home to 29 eagle chicks. New Jersey Fish and Wildlife has banded 13 of the chicks.

Three bald eagle eggs were laid in 2021 where two successfully hatched and one died. An attack by an intruder at the nest is believed to possibly be linked to the reason the final egg did not hatch. Read More: Attack At NJ Bald Eagle Nest After 1st Egg Arrives At Duke Farms
