2 Hillsborough Township Educators Honored

Two educators were named Hillsborough Middle School Teacher of the Year and Educational Services Professional of the Year for 2017.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Two Hillsborough Township educational professionals were honored at the Feb. 28 committee meeting.

Christina Simons was presented with a proclamation for receiving the honor of being named Hillsborough Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2017.

"Simons creativity, passion and dedication make her a hero to both her students and colleagues," the township announced.

Simons, a Literacy Teacher on Team 8B at Hillsborough Middle School, has been a member of the Hillsborough School District faculty since 2002. Among her many accomplishments, in 2006, Simons established Hillsborough Middle School's "ShakesPeer" Society, a program in which students perform the works of William Shakespeare, and has continued to direct this program for the past 10 years.

Nicole Shahinian was also honored for being named Educational Services Professional of the Year for Triangle Elementary School for 2017.

"Shahinian is described as a talented, devoted, selfless, knowledgeable and kind advocate for her students as well as her colleagues," the township announced.

Shahinian, is a Speech and Language Pathologist, has been a member of the Hillsborough School District faculty since 2008. Mrs. Shahinian can also be found behind the camera, recording and directing video productions at Triangle School for both students and staff.
