2-Hour Delayed Opening For Hillsborough Schools Following Flooding

The district will make a final call on whether to close schools later Tuesday morning.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Township Public Schools will have a 2-hour delayed opening on Tuesday due to road conditions following flooding on Monday.

"Please expect buses to pick your child up 2 hours later than normal. Lunches will be served. Afternoon kindergarten and afternoon preschool classes will begin 1 hour later than normal," announced the district.

If road conditions require closing schools, parents will be notified by 7:30 a.m.

On Monday night, Flagtown Fire/Rescue - Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1 reported making 10 responses for various calls in the middle of the storm which caused the most widespread flooding in the recent past.

  • 6 -Water Rescue related dispatches - 1 was an actual rescue
  • 1 -Motor vehicle crash
  • 1 -Reported garage fire
  • 1 -Water/area search
  • 1 - Natural gas leak

Volunteers and career staff manned the firehouse from 6 a.m. and continued through Monday night.

The Flagtown Fire and Rescue is always looking for volunteers. Interested candidates may stop by any Thursday night at the firehouse at 7 p.m. at 20 Equator Ave. There is a 16- to 18-year-old junior member program as well as regular membership for those interested in being firefighters. Some of the benefits include scholarship opportunities, incentives, and a retirement (LOSAP) program.
