2 Men Charged In Somerset Street Shooting

FRANKLIN, NJ — Two New Brunswick men were charged in connection with a shooting in Franklin in June.
Nadir M. Lopez, 20, of Edpas Road in New Brunswick and Jailen D. Coleman, 26, of Bergen Court in New Brunswick both were charged in the June 16 shooting on Somerset Street, said Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
On June 16 at around 12:23 a.m. Franklin Police went to a nearby hospital for a wounded New Brunswick resident that was reportedly shot while on Somerset Street in Franklin Township, said Robertson.

The gunshot wound was reportedly non-life-threatening, said Robertson.
Lopez and Coleman were identified as being involved in the shooting following an investigation by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Franklin Township Police Department.

On July 16, Lopez was arrested in New Brunswick and charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon without a permit.
On July 26, Coleman was arrested in Edison and charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon without a permit.
Lopez and Coleman were taken to the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing in this matter.
A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
