2 New Police Officers Hired, 4 Promoted In Hillsborough Township

The Township Committee approved two backfill hires and four promotions in the police department.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Two new police officers were hired and four officers were promoted in the Hillsborough Township Police Department.

The Hillsborough Township Committee approved resolutions at the June 23 meeting.

"I want to clarify that these hires are backfills and not new positions created," Mayor Catherine Payne said. "And we are very glad to have all of these qualified young people joining our ranks."

The resolution states the Chief of Police and the Police Committee examined the top candidates, and the chief recommended Adham M. Shaban and Anthony S. Salazar for hiring as police officers effective July 15.

The approved annual salaries are $52,983 for Shaban and $60,488 for Salazar.

The Township Committee also approved two promotions to lieutenant effective July 1.

The resolution states that the promotional process to select candidates for the two lieutenant positions had been completed and that the highest-rated candidates were Sergeants Christopher Peltack and Christopher Giraldi.

The chief recommended both men for appointment to lieutenant at an annual salary of $186,296, pursuant to the current P.B.A. Contract.

In a separate resolution, the committee approved the promotion of Corporals Thomas Anzalone and Dylan Ely to sergeant, also effective July 1.

According to the document, the chief recommended Anzalone and Ely, identified as the next highest candidates on the Sergeant's List, to fill the two sergeant positions.

The approved annual salary for each sergeant position is $154,599, pursuant to the current P.B.A. Contract.
