3 Police Officers Promoted In Hillsborough

Lt. Sean Carolan was promoted to Captain, Sgt. Thomas McLain was promoted to Lt., and Corporal Hank Olsyzk was promoted to Sgt.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Three Hillsborough Police Officers were recently promoted and sworn in to serve the department by the Township Committee to fill vacancies in the positions of Captain, Lieutenant, and Sergeant.

The Township Committee approved the promotions of Sean Carolan, Thomas McLain, and Hank Olsyzk at the Feb. 14 meeting.

Lieutenant Sean Carolan was promoted to Captain at an annual salary of $178,535. Sergeant Thomas McLain was promoted to Lieutenant at an annual salary of $169,253. And Corporal Hank Olsyzk was promoted to Sergeant at an annual salary of $140,456, according to the resolution.

On Feb. 24, McLain and Olszyk were joined with their families for a swearing-in ceremony with Deputy Mayor Bob Britting. Captain Carolan was sworn in on Feb. 27 by Township Clerk Pamela Borek.

"Congratulations to our newly promoted officers," said Deputy Mayor Bob Britting.

Captain Sean Carolan has been working for the Department since April 1994. He was initially appointed as a Police Officer and assigned to the Patrol Division. He was promoted to Corporal in 1999, Sergeant in 2007, and Lieutenant in 2017. Carolan has also served as Deputy OEM Director and Investigative Division Commander.

Lieutenant Thomas McLain graduated from the Somerset Police Academy in December 1999 and began working as a police officer in the Patrol Division also in December 1999. McLain was School Resource Officer in 2003 before being promoted to Corporal of the Patrol Division in 2016, where he worked until 2017 when he moved to the Investigative Division/Juvenile. In 2020, McClain was promoted to Sergeant in the Investigative Division. He currently serves as Commander of the Investigative Division.

Sergeant Hank Olszyk was hired to work for Hillsborough Police on June 14, 2001, when he was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2005 and 2006, he worked as School Resource Officer and stayed with the Investigative Division through 2021 when he was promoted to Detective Bureau Corporal. Hank Olszyk currently serves as Sergeant in the Patrol Division.
