3 Teens Escape As Car Crashes, Erupts Into Flames In Montgomery

Three 17-year-olds were able to escape the crash including a Hillsborough teenager, Montgomery Police said.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A Hillsborough teen was among three to escape a car fire on Friday night.

At 8:14 p.m., Montgomery Police, Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2 and Montgomery EMS went Dutchtown Zion Road to find a 2018 Toyota Camry fully engulfed in flames and straddling the guardrail on the side of the road, said Montgomery Police.

A 17-year-old Pennsylvania driver and two 17-year-old passengers from Hillsborough and Pennington were able to escape before the fire ignited.

An investigation found that the car was driving west on Dutchtown Zion Road when it left the roadway and hit a guardrail. The car came to a stop on the guardrail and then erupted in fire, said police.

Montgomery EMS treated the three teenagers at the scene for minor injuries while Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2 extinguished the fire.

Unsafe speed was found to be a contributing circumstance for the cause of the crash, said police.

The crash remains under investigation and motor vehicle charges are pending.
