5 Hillsborough Students Win College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships For 2022

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Five Hillsborough High School students have earned the prestigious college-sponsored merit scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Competition for 2022, the organization announced.

The winners include:

• Nikhil Chandrasekar received a National Merit University of Maryland Scholarship. Chandrasekar plans to study computer science at the university next fall.
• Ryan J. Lee received a National Merit Emory University Scholarship. Lee plans to study nursing at the university next fall.
• Anika Sinha received a National Merit University of Southern California Scholarship. Sinha plans to study international human rights at the university next fall.
• Aahil V. Sudhin received a National Merit University of Maryland Scholarship. Sudhin plans to study computer science at the university next fall.
• Jessica Wu received a National Merit Emory University Scholarship. Wu plans to study pharmacy at the university next fall.

The Hillsborough winners are among more than 2,600 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Officials at each of the sponsored colleges selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

The chosen students will be awarded between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2022 competition to about 4,000.
