6 Puppies, Drugs, Sawed-Off Shotgun Found In Somerset County Home

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — Three North Plainfield residents were charged after police found a slew of drugs, pills, guns, and puppies inside a Somerset County home.
On Jan. 27, police conducted a search of a home on Somerset Street in North Plainfield prompted by an investigation into the distribution of drugs in the borough, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Sherwin S. Newland, 21, of Somerset Street, North Plainfield, Jamal Honorat, 18, of Howard Street, North Plainfield and (name removed), of Somerset Street, North Plainfield were all inside the Somerset Street home at the time of the police search, Robertson said.
Inside police seized about 192 grams of marijuana, about 4.6 pounds of Hashish, about 103 grams of Psilocybin Mushrooms, 45 Xanax pills, drug paraphernalia, a loaded Parker Brothers 12 gage sawed-off shotgun, a loaded Springfield 9mm handgun with a high capacity magazine containing 16 rounds, additional ammunition, and a ballistic vest, said Robertson.

In total, the drugs and pills had a street value of $5,250.
Also six puppies were also found inside the home. Due to the deplorable and inhabitable living conditions of the home, the Plainfield Humane Society came and rescued the puppies, said Robertson.
Newland, Honorat, (removed) were all charged with possession of a 9mm Springfield handgun while committing a CDS offense (second-degree), possession of Hashish with intent to distribute (second-degree), possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms with intent to distribute (second-degree), possession of a 12 gage sawed-off Parker Brothers Shotgun (third-degree), possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a school zone (third-degree), possession of marijuana with intent to distribute (third-degree), possession of a high capacity magazine (fourth-degree), and possession of CDS paraphernalia (disorderly persons).
All three were taken to the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.
