Resident Injured While Saving Dogs From House Fire In Somerset County

FRANKLIN, NJ — A resident is hospitalized after saving their dogs from a house fire on Saturday in Franklin Township.

At around 12:10 p.m., Franklin Township Police Officers went to a home in the 100 block of Irvington Avenue for a report of a fire and encountered a heavy smoke condition, said Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks.

One resident was injured while evacuating dogs from the home and was taken to a local hospital by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital EMS.

Firefighters from multiple agencies, including East Franklin, Community, Somerset Fire and Rescue, New Brunswick, and North Brunswick fire companies, helped to extinguish the fire.

The Milltown Rescue Squad also helped at the scene.

"Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of our police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, the fire was extinguished, and further injuries were prevented," said Director Fredericks. "We also commend the resident's actions in ensuring the safety of their pets."

The Franklin Township Fire Prevention Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
