FRANKLIN, NJ — A Georgia man was arrested for murder after a woman was found dead inside a car in a hotel parking lot in Franklin, said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.
Keith Demery, 54 of Ellenwood, Georgia, was charged with first-degree murder and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
On Saturday at around 6 a.m., Demery called the Franklin Township Police asking for police to come to a hotel on Davidson Avenue for a report of injuries.
Officers met with Demery, who directed them to his vehicle, which was parked in the rear parking lot, said McDonald.
Officers found an unresponsive woman in the front passenger seat, who was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, said McDonald.
Demery was detained by Franklin Township Police Officers and taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.
Demery was later released from the hospital and taken to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities have not released the identity of the woman pending a postmortem examination by the Medical Examiner’s Office to positively identify the victim and to determine the cause and manner of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
On Saturday, Demery was charged and taken to the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
