Mayor Catherine Payne addressed the event at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

"I’m thrilled to serve as Hillsborough’s Mayor during this historic milestone," said Payne. "That I get to celebrate with Hillsborough’s residents is one of the highlights of my year."

The festivities are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with programming focused on the country's roots.

The event will open with a reenactment by local Boy Scout Troop 1776, followed by a performance of "The Rogue’s March" by the West Jersey Artillery’s Fife & Drum brigade.

The entertainment will shift later in the evening, with the Somerville School of Rock set to perform starting at 7 p.m.

During the musical intermission, the New Jersey Harmony Chorus will perform patriotic songs.

The township said the event will also include a commemorative family photo booth marking the 250th anniversary and a Hillsborough Township tent with Semiquincentennial souvenirs.

Inflatable amusements, carnival games, and souvenirs and information from local organizations are also planned.

Food options at the tent are expected to include pizza, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and kettle corn.

"The 250th Anniversary Committee has worked very hard for the past year and a half to provide commemorative entertainment and activities at no cost to taxpayers," added Deputy Mayor and 250th Anniversary Committee Liaison Shawn Lipani. "We are grateful to our team for putting this together and to our generous sponsors for ensuring a star-spangled celebration for Hillsborough."

Residents are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets to the field at Auten Road Intermediate School, 281 Auten Road.

The township said there will be no public parking at the event site.

Complimentary shuttle buses will run from the Hillsborough High School parking lot beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing throughout the evening.

The rain date for Family Fun Day is Sunday, June 28.
