MONTGOMERY, NJ — Montgomery Township officials announced the upcoming opening of three remaining loop roads tied to a long-planned effort to improve traffic flow at the intersection of Routes 206 and 518.
The township said the work is meant to ease daily commutes and support the opening of Montgomery Promenade.
According to the township, staff have been working with developers on the project, which is designed to relieve congestion and improve traffic patterns in the town center.
The township said the updates will complete a key component of its 2002 Master Plan, which was aimed at improving safety and traffic flow.
The first loop road, Brecknell Way, opened in April 2024.
Three more are expected to open this summer: Village Drive, near Wells Fargo Bank, in late June to early July, and Nevius Boulevard and Bolmer Corner, both at Montgomery Promenade, later this summer.
Once the Promenade roads open, drivers will no longer be able to make left turns directly from Route 206 onto Route 518, according to the township.
Instead, motorists will use the new loop roads to reach Route 518.
The Montgomery Engineering Department created a map showing the new traffic pattern so drivers can prepare for the change before getting on the road, according to the Township.
For drivers traveling south on Route 206 and heading toward Hopewell, the township said there will be three options: turn right at Village Drive and continue to the traffic light at Route 518, turn right onto Brecknell Way and then right at the stop sign onto Route 518, or continue making a direct right onto Route 518.
Drivers traveling north on Route 206 and heading toward Hopewell will no longer be able to turn left directly onto Route 518, according to the township.
Instead, they will turn left onto Nevius Boulevard, across from Benjamin Boulevard, continue through the traffic circle, and then turn left onto Route 518 at the traffic light.
If drivers miss Nevius Boulevard, the township said they can use Village Drive instead.
For drivers traveling south on Route 206 and heading toward Rocky Hill, left turns directly onto Route 518 will also end once the Promenade roads open.
The township said those drivers should continue past Route 518 and turn right onto Bolmer Corner, with Nevius Boulevard and Village Drive listed as alternate routes.
There is no change for drivers making right turns onto Route 518 from either direction on Route 206, according to the township.
