Hillsborough Survey Seeks Senior Input About Programs, Outreach Needs

Township leaders say the survey will help shape senior programs and how information reaches residents.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Township is preparing to launch a Senior Programming and Communications Survey in early July.

The survey will ask older residents to weigh in on township programs, recreational interests, and how they prefer to receive local information.

The survey will be hosted through the Engage Hillsborough/Public Input platform and is aimed at helping the township better understand the needs and interests of its senior population.

According to the township, the questionnaire will ask for feedback on existing senior programs to evaluate their effectiveness and measure community interest.

It will also ask about resource needs and basic demographic information.

A major part of the survey focuses on communication.

The township said it wants to learn how seniors currently get news from Hillsborough and which methods they prefer for staying informed.

Information gathered through the survey is expected to help shape future township services and outreach efforts.

Mayor Catherine Payne said the township wants to hear from as many residents as possible.

"Our goal is to make sure every senior in Hillsborough feels connected and valued," Payne said. "This survey is a vital step in expanding our outreach efforts so we can reach all of our older residents, listen to their ideas, and bring new faces into our community programs."

The governing body also said access and cost are central concerns as it reviews senior offerings.

Social Services Liaison and Committeeman Robert Britting Jr. said the township wants to maintain a wide range of programming while keeping it free to residents.

"We want to guarantee that there are robust, engaging activities in place for all of our seniors," Britting said. "Importantly, we are committed to providing these high-quality programs at no cost to our taxpayers, ensuring we support our residents while remaining fiscally responsible."

Township Clerk and Public Information Officer Sarah Brake said the communication piece will be key to the effort.

"A program can only be successful if people actually know it exists," Brake said. "It is incredibly important that all seniors are informed about what is happening in their town, and this survey will help us understand how to best deliver that information directly to them."

The Senior Programming and Communications Survey will be available in early July.

Seniors can look for information about the survey on the township social media, the township website, the Mayor’s eNews, in the Social Services office, and through announcements at senior chapter meetings.
