FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man riding an electric bike was killed following a crash with a car on Saturday in Franklin Township, said Public Safety Director Lloyd N. Fredericks.
On Saturday just before 1:30 p.m., officers went to Route 27 and South Middlebush Road for a crash and found an adult man suffering from serious injuries.
Emergency medical personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital took the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation found that the victim was riding an e-bike south on Route 27 when the crash occurred with a vehicle making a left turn from Route 27 northbound onto South Middlebush Road.
"Our condolences are with the victim's family and loved ones during this tragic time," said Fredericks. "With the increased use of e-bikes throughout our community, we urge everyone to slow down, remain alert, and follow the rules of the road. New Jersey has also implemented new requirements for e-bike riders, including licensing and registration requirements, as well as mandatory helmet use. We encourage riders and motorists alike to familiarize themselves with these laws."
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the crash is encouraged to contact Officer Ryan Ellington at 732-873-5533 ext. 3174.
