Hillsborough OKs Police Promotions, Vehicle Purchase, IT Backup Upgrade

Actions include a new police SUV, radio, vehicle upfitting and battery backup for police IT systems.

Hillsborough Township Committee approved a series of police-related actions, including permanent appointments for two supervisors, the purchase of a new police vehicle and technology upgrades for the department. (Hillsborough Township Police)

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Township Committee approved a series of police-related actions, including permanent appointments for two supervisors, the purchase of a new police vehicle and technology upgrades for the department.

Previously, the Township Committee appointed Philip Wolff to lieutenant and James Sakers to sergeant in the Hillsborough Township Police Department on Feb. 10.

The Chief of Police indicated both men performed their duties and assignments in a capable manner during their six-month probationary period and recommended that permanent status be conferred in their current positions effective Aug. 10.

At the Aug. 25 meeting, the committee accepted and approved that recommendation.

The committee also authorized several purchases for the police department.

One resolution authorizes the purchase of battery back-up for the police department's IT infrastructure from Howard Technology Solutions in an amount not to exceed $13,435.

The resolution states that the director of information technology determined there is a need to replace the aging battery backup.

Another resolution authorizes the purchase of one Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicle from Nielsen of Morristown Dealership in an amount not to exceed $50,371.29.

The resolution states that the police department identified the need to replace a police vehicle.

The committee also approved lighting and electrical upfitting for one police vehicle by Elite Vehicle Solutions in an amount not to exceed $30,064.

In a separate action, the committee authorized the purchase of one all-band mobile radio with programming for a new police vehicle from Motorola Solutions in an amount not to exceed $8,364.

The committee also introduced Ordinance 2026-08, a capital ordinance for $43,000 for the purchase of a new phone system for the township and police department and battery backup for the police department.

The ordinance appropriates $28,000 for the phone system and $15,000 for battery backup.
