HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The Hillsborough Elementary School was placed in a lockout/ secure hold out on Wednesday due to a nearby domestic violence assault, police said.
At 1:11 p.m., Hillsborough Police Officers were called to the shopping mall at 409 Route 206 for a report of a domestic violence assault in progress.
When police arrived, a suspect ran away southbound toward Amwell Road, said Captain Scott W. Mc Carthy.
The suspect was apprehended. There was no threat to the community, said Mc Carthy.
Since the assault happened nearby, Hillsborough Elementary School was placed in a lockout out /secure hold out of an abundance of caution.
"There was also no direct threat to the school or students," said Mc Carthy.
The Somerset County Sheriff's Office also came to help.
The lockdown was lifted around 2 p.m.
