Man Dies After Hit By Car In Somerset County

The crash happened early on Thursday morning.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A man was fatally hit by a car in Hillsborough on Thursday morning.

At 5:44 a.m., Hillsborough Police were called to 330 Roycefield Road for a report of a pedestrian-versus-motor-vehicle crash.

Police found the victim, later identified as Vernon McLauglin III, 52, of Whitehouse, was unresponsive, said Hillsborough Police Lt. Jack Howard.

Officers provided medical attention before McLaughlin was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset, where he was pronounced dead.

According to an initial investigation, the driver, a 64-year-old Hillsborough man, was parking a vehicle next to a building when McLaughlin was hit.

This incident remains under investigation by the Somerset
County Prosecutor's Office and Hillsborough Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.

The following agencies responded and helped: New Jersey State Police Aviation, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital units 8A2, 8B10, 8B2, Somerville Rescue Squad unit 54B1 and Hillsborough Fire Safety.
