Hillsborough Teachers Union Endorses Marini, Nurse, Braungard-Galayda

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The Hillsborough Education Association(HEA) has endorsed Paul Marini, Cindy Nurse and Diane Braungard-Galayda for the Hillsborough Board of Education.

According to the HEA, the screening committee was chaired by Jennifer Tuller, the union's elections chair and an Auten Road Intermediate School math specialist.

The union said the committee offered all Board of Education candidates the chance to answer questions and provide information about their platform and vision for Hillsborough Township Public Schools.

The HEA said almost all candidates returned the required information and were eligible for consideration.

"The questionnaire encouraged candidates to share their insights on a variety of educational topics," Tuller said. "Now more than ever, our focus was on the future of our district and how the candidates would bring to life a vision that guarantees our students continue to enjoy outstanding educational experiences, while also supporting our community as a whole."

Following the screening, the committee recommended Marini, Nurse and Braungard-Galayda to the HEA's governing body, which the union said is made up of more than 70 representatives from across the district.

The union said that recommendation was unanimously affirmed.

"The committee carefully examined all the information and assessed the responses provided," Tuller said. "We firmly believe that Marini, Nurse, and Braungard-Galayda are worthy of our endorsement. Both Marini and Nurse have shown a strong dedication to transparency and collaboration with all stakeholders. Additionally, Braungard-Galayda shares this commitment to our community and possesses extensive experience in education, driven by a student-centered approach. We are proud to support Marini, Nurse, and Braungard-Galayda, who expressed a clear vision for the future of our schools."

In announcing the endorsements, the HEA pointed to Hillsborough's schools and broader community as a source of local pride.

The union said the township is often identified as one of the best places to live and said the high school was recently ranked among the top schools in the nation.

"The achievements of our schools — and more importantly, our students — are a collaborative effort involving all stakeholders," stated HEA President Henry Goodhue. "We take pride in endorsing Board candidates who align with our community's mission of providing an excellent education. We are confident that electing Marini, Nurse, and Braungard-Galayda will maintain our district's success and, most importantly, ensure that our students continue to receive the outstanding education for which our community is known."
