📰 News we're reading

1. Hillsborough Mayor Breaks Down 3-Year $423K Software Contract (patch.com) — Hillsborough residents are getting more details on the township's three-year, $423,454 switch from Spatial Data Logic to GovPilot for municipal software. Mayor Catherine Payne says the move should improve system reliability, expand public access to property records, reduce OPRA requests, and ultimately save about $120,000 over three years while allowing unlimited users and modules.

2. 'I Our Hear Residents Loud And Clear': Hillsborough To Share Meeting Docs Earlier (patch.com) — Hillsborough residents will now get Township Committee meeting documents by Monday evening, giving you more time to review agendas and prepare comments. Mayor Catherine Payne set a strict new Monday-noon deadline for committee questions and department updates, with only emergency financial items exempt, after residents pushed for earlier public access to materials.

3. Driver fatally strikes pedestrian while trying to park in Hillsborough (news12.com) — A man was fatally struck early Thursday while a driver attempted to park near a building on Roycefield Road in Hillsborough, and he later died at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Police say the driver, a 64-year-old Hillsborough resident, remained on scene as the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and Hillsborough Township Police Traffic Safety Bureau continue investigating the crash.

4. Bridgewater Council Hears Updates on Planned Sewer Improvements and Upgrades (tapinto.net) — Bridgewater officials outlined major sewer upgrades that will also affect Hillsborough, including removing a Raritan River dam that sits between the two townships and relocating a vulnerable North Branch sewer trunk line. The multi-year projects, funded partly by state programs, aim to protect water quality, improve pumping stations, and curb costly stormwater infiltration. Hillsborough residents should expect long-term river and sewer work nearby starting later this year.

5. No. 5 Freedom football upends top-ranked Phillipsburg in an instant classic (lehighvalleylive.com) — Phillipsburg's football team fell 32–31 to Freedom in a dramatic interstate matchup, wrapping up its Pennsylvania slate with a 2–1 record. Next week, the Stateliners turn their focus to New Jersey competition by hosting Hillsborough, giving Raider fans a notable early-season road test against a traditionally tough program. The game will help set the tone for Hillsborough's in-state campaign.
