MONTGOMERY, NJ — A house fire reported on Sunday morning brought firefighters from Montgomery Township and Rocky Hill to Route 206.
The fire was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday near Tamarack Circle.
Crews found flames on the outside of the home next to the chimney and moderate smoke coming from the roofline, according to the Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2.
Firefighters began opening the outside of the home to expose hidden spaces where the fire was running between the chimney and the outside wall, according to the fire department.
Extensive overhaul work followed to make sure the fire remained contained to the original area and did not spread farther into the home.
Additional help came from Montgomery EMS, along with responders from Hopewell and Plainsboro. Griggstown and Hillsborough provided coverage for the township while Montgomery crews remained at the scene.
The fire was investigated by the Montgomery Township Bureau of Fire Prevention and the Building Sub-Code Official.
After the investigation, the residents were granted partial re-occupancy of the home.
No injuries were reported. All companies were released after about three hours on scene.
Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 offered a seasonal reminder as cooler weather approaches.
"As cooler weather approaches, please take a moment to have your fireplace and chimney inspected before placing them in service for the season," said the department.
The fire department is made up of 100 percent volunteers. To learn more about volunteering, visit mtvfc2.com.
