Within four minutes, an officer arrived, found heavy smoke and went into the building to make sure no one was inside, said Ellis.

Multiple fire companies from Franklin Township along with mutual aid fire companies came to help.

The fire was extinguished, and no occupants were reported inside the building.

Somerset County hazmat also responded because of the presence of lithium ion batteries.

"At this time, it appears the batteries were the cause of the fire; however, Franklin Township Fire Prevention is investigating," said Ellis.

Two firefighters received minor injuries. The injuries did not require treatment at the hospital.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Inspector John Haus at 732-873-2500 ext. 6305.
