Apartment Building Catches Fire, Displaces 2 Families In Franklin

The fire affected four units, causing two displacements, according to police.

FRANKLIN, NJ — A fire broke out at an apartment building in Franklin Township displacing residents on Saturday.

On Saturday at 3:39 p.m., Franklin Township Police went to an apartment building on Victor Street after getting a call reporting a fire, according to Det. Sgt. Vincent Wilson.

Police saw fire and smoke coming from the back of the apartment building and a grassy area next door, said Wilson.

Firefighters from the Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention, Community Fire Department, East Franklin Fire Department, Middlebush Fire Department, Kendall Park Fire Department, and New Brunswick Fire Department helped put out the fire.

No residents were reportedly injured. EMS personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital were also on scene.

The fire affected four units, causing two displacements. One family went to live with relatives, while the other was assisted by The American Red Cross.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention. An initial investigation indicates the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
