Art Show Will Present Adult and Student Work

Hillsborough's annual Art Exhibit and Competition will have works from Hillsborough-based adult artists and students from throughout Somerset County.

They say there’s an art to everything, so Hillsborough’s artists and photographers are asked to showcase their works.

The Hillsborough Cultural Arts Commission is sponsoring its 2011 Art Exhibit and Competition on April 1-4, at the Hillsborough Municipal Building.  The exhibit and competition is open to Hillsborough adults and high school students throughout Somerset County.

Submissions will be placed into four categories, two for adults and two for high school students.  The categories include adult art, adult photography, high school art and high school photography.  Each category will have first, second and third place prices.  In addition, three judges’ choice awards and five honorable mentions will be selected as well.

Gift certificates to art and photography stores totaling $2,400 will be awarded as prizes.  First place winners will receive $150, second place winners will receive $100 and third place winners will receive $75.  Three judges’ choice winners will receive $50 each and the five honorable mentions will receive $25.

Artwork will be judged on overall impact, creativity, craftsmanship, composition, and degree of difficulty, by a panel of professional artists and illustrators.  Photography submissions will be judged based on criteria from the professional photographers association, with professional photographers as the judges.

Adult submissions are limited to two pieces or art or photography and all artwork must be ready to hang.  Adults will have the option of selling their artwork at the show, but may display pieces that are not for sale too.

Art teachers at Somerset County Schools will select the art work to be shown at the show, from the works produced by students enrolled in art classes during the 2010-2011 school year.  Each school will be permitted to submit a limited number of works in each category.
