Basement Fire Ignites At Hillsborough Home
Residents are reminded to check and make sure their smoke alarms are working and to replace them at least every 10 years.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A fire broke out in the basement of a township home in the early hours of Thursday morning.
At around 1:20 a.m., Hillsborough firefighters were called out to a home on Three Bridges Road and found a working fire and heavy smoke coming from the basement, said Flagtown Fire/Rescue - Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1.
Firefighters stretched a hose into the basement and were able to put out the small fire, said Fire Company #1.

The home was uninhabitable but fortunately, there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bureau of Fire Safety.
Firefighters shared a photo from the fire to illustrate the aftermath of the deadly smoke that accumulates from even a small fire.

"Plastics and synthetic materials produce incredibly toxic and choking smoke that will quickly overcome occupants. Check your smoke alarms and replace them every 10 years," said Flagtown Fire/Rescue - Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1.
