The Pickle Jar offers 8 climate-controlled, individually enclosed courts, a players' lounge, and a pro shop.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Bridgewater couple Justin and Val Lucas are self-proclaimed pickleball fanatics who have decided to dive into their first business venture by opening a pickleball club in Hillsborough.
"I am pretty heavily into pickleball and noticed there wasn't a club in the area," said Justin Lucas to Patch. "There was a need that was unmet at this point."
Justin and Val Lucas decided to take the plunge and follow their dream of opening their own business.

"The sport does have that effect on people. You play a couple of times and get really into it. I am pretty competitive in it and always wanted to open a business," said Justin Lucas.
The duo opened the Pickle Jar at 315 Roycefield Road in Hillsborough last month. On Friday they will be joined by Hillsborough Mayor Robert Britting Jr. and Township officials for a ribbon cutting.

"My husband and I have put our heart and soul into this venture, and I am so excited to announce the grand opening of our brand new pickleball club," said Val Lucas.
The club offers 8 climate-controlled, individually enclosed courts, a players' lounge, and a pro shop.
Whether you're a seasoned player or a complete newbie, the club welcomes all skill levels. Players can take part in all skill-level open plays, book court sessions, beginner classes, and more.
Additionally, the club offers several pro coaches including Richard Livornese, Jr. who is a IPTPA level 2 pro-certified coach and a professional pickleball player.
Players can choose from a variety of memberships from yearly, monthly, and drop-in days. Senior discounts are also offered.
Justin Lucas said opening the club has been a "long journey but a very interesting one."
"We have been really focused on being the best and providing a good experience," said Justin Lucas.
