Broadway Star Inspires Dancers at Premiere Dance Hillsborough
Master Class at Premiere Dance Hillsborough with Broadway Star, Amy Yakima
On Monday January 18th Broadway Star of “Finding Neverland” and “So You Think You Can Dance” Winner, Amy Yakima visited Premiere Dance Hillsborough (PDH) to teach two Master Classes. Yakima was the winner of SYTYCD season 10 and is currently starring as Peter Pan in the hit Broadway show “Finding Neverland”. She taught a combination of Jazz/Contemporary to the PDH students and ended each class with a meet and greet. She also took time to speak to the dancers and encourage them by explaining her journey with dance. PDH offered the class to their dancers free of charge on Monday while the students were off from school. Company Director Michelle Cunningham said, “It is important for a dancer to receive training from various instructors, choreographers and artists. It will only help as they further their dance career. Taking class from Amy was special because she was someone our young dancers could aspire to be like.”
Yakima was inspired by the PDH dancers as well. Tweeting late Monday evening “To the beautiful dancers who gave me their hearts and souls today @PDHDynamics…thank you for dancing and inspiring me again!”
Jr. at HHS, Mia Jaderlund said, “It was an honor to take her class!” She couldn’t thank Yakima and PDH enough, Jaderlund was almost in tears from being so moved as an aspiring artist.
