Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense/ Somerset-Hunterdon Counties invites the community to attend a peaceful, family-friendly rally at the Somerset County Courthouse in Somerville on Saturday, May 9th from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, in honor of Mother’s Day.
The theme of the rally is Skip the Flowers! Moms want common-sense gun legislation to keep us and our mothers and sisters, our children and families, and our communities safe from gun violence.
According to Everytown for Gun Safety, “New Jersey has long been a pioneer in gun violence prevention—with one of the most comprehensive and recently strengthened concealed carry permitting systems, perhaps the boldest ghost gun prohibitions in the nation, and both a permit and background check required for all gun purchases.”
But nationally, the Trump administration has undermined public safety by attacking gun-violence prevention policies; making guns accessible to those who had been prohibited from purchasing a gun; reducing oversight and accountability for law-breaking gun dealers; and more. Lawmakers are now pushing a new federal mandate that would force every state to recognize every other state's standards for carrying a concealed and loaded gun in public—including states with weak or no standards at all.
Moms Demand Action has joined forces with Finding Kean Fridays and One NJ7 to raise our voices in unison and let our elected officials know they need to represent our values and protect our families and communities. Rebecca Bennett and Michael Roth, congressional candidates in the upcoming CD07 primary election, will attend and share remarks. All four candidates were invited to speak. Shanel Robinson, Somerset County Commissioner Director, will also share remarks.
