A Call for Help: Hillsborough-based Feeding Hands Seeks Support for Local Families

Feeding Hands, a nonprofit food pantry in Hillsborough, New Jersey, has long provided free groceries and support services to families throughout Somerset County with dignity and care. Recently, that mission has become more urgent than ever.

Demand has risen sharply as government funding for food assistance programs, including SNAP, has decreased. This demand increased further when the Hillsborough Township C.A.N. food pantry closed its non-holiday programs, such as weekly food distributions. C.A.N.'s clients turned to Feeding Hands for support, increasing the number of families the pantry now serves.

Among the most pressing needs are women's sanitary products and toddler pull-ups. Some mothers in the community have resorted to using socks in place of pads, and some children have missed school simply because they didn't have access to menstrual products.

To make it easy for the community to help, volunteers Kristin and Ellen organized a donation drive and set up an Amazon wishlist. Ellen, who staffs the personal care products room at Feeding Hands' Hillsborough location during its twice-weekly distributions, has offered to have donated items shipped directly to her home, where she'll sort them and bring them to the pantry. For those who prefer not to send physical items, gift cards are also available on the registry so volunteers can purchase supplies directly.
