Car Crashes Into Hillsborough Business

Breaking: The car went 3 feet into the wall and into the Walgreens in Hillsborough on Wednesday morning. The store remains closed.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A Belle Mead man crashed his luxury car into the Walgreens on Route 206 on Wednesday while trying to park, authorities report.

Subir Das, 52,was trying to park his brown 2014 BMW on the east side of the store when the car jumped the curb and crashed into and through the exterior brick wall of the building just before 10 a.m. on Dec. 28, Hillsborough Police report.

The car went 3 feet into the wall and into the store. Customers were inside the store at the time of the crash, yet neither the driver nor customers were injured, police reported.

Das was issued a summons for careless driving at the scene.

The building was evacuated as Hillsborough Township Building Department officials assessed the structural damage. The structural integrity was determined to possibly compromised, and the building must be closed until a further inspection by a structural engineer.

The store will remain closed until the inspection is completed and repairs are made.

All units cleared the scene at approximately 10:45 a.m. Responding units included: Hillsborough Police Department, Hillsborough Township Fire Department, Hillsborough Rescue Squad, Hillsborough Fire Safety Bureau, Hillsborough Township OEM and Hillsborough Township Building Department.
