Carpet Cleaner Stole Checks During Job At Montgomery Home
A man working for a carpet cleaning company in Edison stole 3 checks from the elderly Montgomery woman's home and cashed $600: Police.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A man who worked for a carpet cleaning company hired to clean an elderly Montgomery woman's home has been arrested for theft.
On Sept. 12, the resident reported having the company, based in Edison, come out to clean her carpets. Several days later the resident noticed three checks had been stolen from her checkbook, according to Montgomery Police.
The victim contacted her bank and found two of the checks had already been cashed for a total of $600.

Marc Lahens, 30, of Asbury Park was found to have cashed the checks, following an investigation by detectives.
With the complete cooperation of the carpet cleaning company, it was revealed that Lahens was a member of the carpet cleaning crew that cleaned the victim’s carpets.

On Sept. 27 Lahens was found and confessed to the thefts, police reported.
Lahens was charged with theft and theft by deception. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office remanded the charges against Lahens to Municipal Court. Lahens was released on his own recognizance.
