Computer Creativity Needed for This Photo Contest
What can you do with photo apps?

Most photography contests seek beautiful sunsets and picturesque scenes...or kittens, but a contest underway at Hillsborough Public Library is looking for entries with a different viewpoint.
As part of the library's Teen Tech Week, students in grades 6-12 are invited to enter their slightly manipulated or completely skewed photos for the first-ever Teen Tech Weeek Photogtaphy Contest.
The idea grew out of the library's growing use of the social media website Tumblr, Young Adult Librarian Diane Valentine said.

"This year, I thought it would be fun for teens to have the opportunity to create on their own with the photography contest," she said. "With the ease and accessibility that iPhones and smartphones provide, altering and sharing photos has become an everyday occurrence."
She added that popular apps like Instagram enable people of all ages to be a bit more creative with their photography.

"Our teen photography contest will allow teens to capitalize on something with which they are already familiar," Valentine said.
The contest requires two photos to be submitted for each entry: one original photo along with its manipulated version. Use of online editing tools, Photoshop or any app is fine; entries will be accepted until March 28.
"Throughout April, these photos will hang in the library and patrons will vote on their favorites," Valentine said.
Prizes for the top three photos include gift cards for Barnes & Noble, Hillsborough Cinema and iTunes.
